How to Contribute a Review

It is easy to become a reviewer with babies in museums. Simply complete this form and tell us about your museum visits. To help we have included some guidelines, inspiration and advice specially for our wonderful community of Museum Reviewers.

The primary purpose of the Babies in Museums review community is to enable parents of small children to help each other. Advice and recommendations which are going to ease or improve the museum visit of another parent and their baby are particularly welcome.

The secondary purpose of Babies in Museums Reviews is to communicate the needs of babies and new parents to museum professionals. Our reviews enable museum teams to understand how parents and babies use their facilities. Your review could help a museum to improve their offer for the benefit for future visitors.

To contribute a Short Review

Short reviews are designed to provide a snapshot of your museum experience. For a short review we will ask you to provide information in a star rating format.

1-5 stars rating for accessibility – was the museum easy to move around with a baby using a pram or buggy? Where there many stairs or parts of the museum you could not access at all for practical reasons? Did the museum team help you to find the lift or offer to help you with stairs?

1-5 stars rating for baby feeding facilities – this relates to breast or bottle feeding. Did you feel welcome and comfortable while feeding your baby in the museum? Did the museum have a designated area for baby feeding or was there a particular part of the museum where you felt baby feeding was particularly easy or comfortable? Did you spot any signage about baby feeding? Where there bottle warming facilities for example?

1-5 stars rating for travel to and from the museum – Local transportation is of course outside the control of a museum, but at Babies in Museums we recognise that a beautifully baby-friendly visit can be hampered by a nightmare journey. There are some places that are just not worth the hassle to get to. If you found the ‘least worst’ transport route please tell us about it!

1-5 stars rating for baby changing facilities – in our experience some baby changing facilities are disgusting and some are inherently sexist (ie. changing facilities in the ladies loo, but none in the gents). Our 5 star reviewer holders in this category go that extra mile by providing spare changing supplies and a clean and roomy space for changing your baby with privacy and ease.

1-5 stars rating for enjoyability – sometimes it is worth overcoming obstacles because the museum is so enjoyable, sometimes a practically smooth visit is just a bit dull. Tell us if you and your baby enjoyed the museum.

1-5 stars rating for the overall experience – This score should take into account the star ratings in all the above categories. 2 or 3 sentences about your experience – This should be a snappy summary about how the visit went. The facilities and provision which were successful or the central components which caused you problems.

To Contribute a Blog Post Review

If you would like to submit a review in the form of a blog post we ask that you complete the star rating information as outlined above as well as sending us your blog post with a maximum of 700 words.

We will also ask you to provide some information about your visit and yourself for administrative purposes which will not appear in the public domain.

Guidelines for Review Writers

There are a small number of important guidelines we ask all reviewers to follow. This ensures that all contributions comply with the Babies in Museums code of practice, adhere to a consistent format and follow the values and ethos of the community.

  • We welcome reviews which are positive, negative or anywhere in the middle and reviews should always be honest, accurate and a fair representation of your personal experience.
  • Reviews should be practical and constructive. This provides the most useful information for other parents and provides the museum with feedback they can use to improve their offer.
  • Reviews should be an account of a single visit and should represent only your experiences on that one occasion. We ask this to maintain consistency in our reviewing methods.
  • Reviews should be offered without bias or agenda. Impartiality is important to the reviewing process.
