Total Babies in Museums Rating ****
Slightly off the beaten track, this beautiful and free little museum is in Walthamstow and around a 10 minute walk from Walthamstow Central tube station. This is a magnificent spot for parents and babies.
This little museum set in Morris’ former childhood home tells the story of William Morris, his work as an artist and designer, his writing, publishing house and political activism. It is a beautiful museum – a celebration of William Morris’ aesthetic ideals and principles, rich in textures, colours and images.
There are lots of excellent features which make this is great place to visit with babies. They have a lovely independent cafe with highchairs and views over the manicured lawns which surround the house. The grounds are beautiful for little ones to explore and their is a good sized playground on-site. The whole museum and grounds has step free access and some lovely level access architecture at the front. There are some very nice interactive displays which slightly older children will enjoy – and lots of light, sounds and colour to stimulate the smaller ones.
The museum staff were warm and welcoming to Lily and I and very keen to point out all of the exhibits and features which Lily might enjoy. The museum’s nearest station – Walthamstow Central has step free access and there is a small and reasonably priced carpark next door.
